Safety management systems are an evolutionary development of the traditional flight safety program that can significantly enhance the safety of an aviation operation. A successfully developed and implemented safety management system, or SMS, will ensure that safety is a core value in an operation and that safety is integrated into all management systems including operational, maintenance, financial and human resource management.
